Barbara

Read Barbara's Bio

As a water baby my swimming career began before I could walk. The water is my second home, and my goal is to enable anyone, any age, to learn to be safe and, hopefully, enjoy it as much as I enjoy it. I'm trained and certified American Red Cross water safety instructor and lifeguard, but I adjust my lessons to enable any student to learn. I've taught here since 2006, so WSHC is my home away from home.

I am an experienced swim coach with a passion for the water that spans 13 years. With a strong belief in training that prioritizes safety and enjoyment, my coaching style focuses on creating a positive and fun learning environment for both children and adults. Whether helping beginners to swim confidently or refining the techniques of seasoned swimmers, I am dedicated to empowering my students in the pool and fostering a love for swimming that lasts a lifetime.

Growing up in California, I was an avid swimmer that later led to me joining and competing with my water polo, swim and diving teams. The skills that I learned during my time swimming and competing helped me come up with my training curriculum and style that I use with my clients today. I use my experience in tandem swimming to teach individuals of all ages and skill levels to be confident and competent in water. I value a positive and supportive learning environment with an emphasis on safety to achieve remarkable results. I am an enthusiast about swimming and aim to make my swim experience enjoyable and fun!

I began swimming at a young age and always had a deep love for the water. Between the ages of 12 and 14, I participated in a Lifeguard program, where I learned skills for open water navigation and ocean safety. Throughout high school, I was involved in water polo and competitive swimming, but my true passion blossomed when I joined a program to assist low-income families in sending their children to the beach for surfing and swimming lessons. Being able to share my passion with those who may not have had the chance otherwise inspired me to keep spreading the joy to others.

Read Spencer's Bio

Born and raised in Austin, I was always fond of swimming and being around the water. I turned this hobby into a part-time job after swimming with my neighborhood and high school swim teams for most of my early life. I work with students of all ages and experience levels, adapting my teaching style to meet individual needs. With prior experience teaching group and private swim lessons, I bring enthusiasm and patience to my classes, emphasizing stroke development in stronger swimmers while ensuring lessons are still fun and engaging. I customize my approach to foster growth and confidence in beginners, competitive swimmers, and anyone in-between.
